For those of you reading, please vote

Dear editor:

For those of you reading, I implore you to remind your friends and neighbors to take the time to vote this November.

There are many Americans these days who feel their votes don’t count or aren’t making a difference.

I can’t speak for state or federal elections, but I can assure you from being inside this election as a candidate for Ormond Beach Zone 4: every vote really does matter.

I was, and still am, a little shocked at the number of registered voters who chose me during the primary election. I am beyond thankful for every one of those votes of support.

In the August primary, 862 Zone 4 residents voted for me, 931 voted for Commissioner Briley, and 428 voted for Barry du Moulin. That was 2,221 votes out of 7,635 registered Zone 4 voters.

That means approximately 29.1% of the Zone showed up and voted.

It also means approximately 70.9% did not.

Decisions are being made that affect every one of us.

This letter isn't to ask for your support in my campaign. If you do support me, I appreciate you. If you don't, but you are still showing up to make your voice heard on local issues and in choosing the people who will hold public office, I appreciate that too.

I simply want to remind everyone that our government is at its best and functioning at its best for the people when the people are actually participating.

So, that being said:

Oct. 20 through Nov. 1 is Early Voting.

General Election Day is Nov. 3.

Get out and vote!

Amber Bobak

Ormond Beach

Editor's note: Amber Bobak is a candidate for Ormond Beach City Commission Zone 4.
