The Volusia County Council of PTAs hosted its Back-to-School Breakfast of Champions and first general meeting of year on Sept. 2, at The Center at Deltona.
The sports themed breakfast, served by the Pine Ridge High School culinary students, featured several guest speakers: Volusia County School Board member Jamie Haynes, Chair Ruben Colon, Superintendent Carmen Balgobin. FL PTA President-Elect Shelly Pedraza and National PTA President 21-23 Anna King.
According to the district, the Volusia County Council of PTAs brought together local PTA leaders, school administrators, district leadership, School Board members, families, community partners and sponsors, with the goal of strengthening PTA involvement at every school.
"PTA members score big through fundraisers, events, and advocacy efforts, but their most valuable contribution doesn't show up on a scoreboard," Volusia County Schools said in a Facebook post. It's their presence. Years from now, students may not remember every event or fundraiser, but they will remember the adults who showed up for them."
The Pine Trail Elementary PTA were among the PTAs that received a "Membership Plus Award" by the Florida PTA at the event. The award recognizes local PTA units that increase total membership by at least 25% over the previous year.
The Pine Trail Elementary PTA reported on Facebook that their membership grew by more than 74% — going from 121 to 211 members.
