CERASI WINS DELAND INVITATIONAL

Matanzas junior Peyton Cerasi won the girls race at the DeLand Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand.

Cerasi finished with a time of 18:53.0, nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Rachel Judy of Master’s Academy, who finished in 19:49.1.

Seabreeze’s Karly Rybicki ran a personal-record  23:21.7 to place 47th. Matanzas’ Noemi Malinowski placed 50th in 23.35.4.

In the boys race, Seabreeze’s Joseph Davis placed 19th in 18:03.6. Davis’ teammate, Barrett Jones was 42nd in 18:48.3, and Mainland’s Terris Gaines was 49th with a PR time of 19:03.0.

FPC BOYS PLACE SECOND

Flagler Palm Coast’s boys cross country team placed second behind state cross country power Miami Belen Jesuit Prep at the Florida Horse Park Invitational in Ocala on Sept. 5.

Belen Jesuit, which has won nine consecutive Class 3A state championships, compiled 63 points with five runners placing among the top 24, including the first- and second- place finishers. FPC had 231 points.

FPC sophomore Douglas Seth placed fourth with a time of 15:52.7. Sophomore Dylan Ciardi placed 15th with a personal-record time of 16:12.3. Enzo McGovern also set a PR with a 16:51.0 to place 57th. Mateo Almeida was right behind in 58th place with a 16:51.2 and Owen Stackpole was 104th in 17:20.5.

A total of 544 runners finished the race with 66 schools compiling team scores on a brutally hot and humid day.

The Bulldogs are currently ranked second in the state behind Belen Jesuit in the Run Florida rankings. They defeated two other top-five teams at the meet in Bolles and Gulliver Prep, which placed third and fourth, respectively. FPC has yet to run against Nease, which FPC coach David Halliday said is the team to beat in Class 4A.

FPC’s girls placed 21st with senior Anna Grigoruk leading the way with a time of 19:54.3 to finish 29th. Freshman Avery Wisniewski was 58th with a PR time of 20:41.3. FPC’s other team scorers were Everly Mucciolo (96th, 21:26.5), Lauren Rutledge (200th, 23:09.8) and Summer McKinney (231st, 23:38.5).

“It was a solid day,” Halliday said. “We’re making some improvements. Of our 27 runners (varsity and JV), 21 either set their season-best time or their overall PR.”
