Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Commander Rob Tarczewski was among 41 law enforcement leaders who graduated from the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Commanders Academy on Sept. 4, according to the FCSO.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Commanders Academy focuses on the unique needs of sheriff’s offices and is designed to prepare the next generation of public safety leaders. The program provides executive-level training for mid- to upper-level leaders within Florida sheriff’s offices.

Participants received training in leadership, ethics, discipline and other areas related to upper-level leadership. The curriculum also addresses emerging trends, issues affecting Florida sheriff’s offices and recent high-profile events.

“Commander Tarczewski’s dedication to our community and commitment to professional development are commendable,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The Florida Sheriffs Association’s Commanders Academy provides exceptional leadership training. We are proud of Commander Tarczewski for successfully completing this demanding program and look forward to seeing him apply the skills and knowledge he gained to continue strengthening our agency’s leadership team and serving our community.”

Tarczewski began his law enforcement career with the FCSO in January 2011, the agency said. He was promoted to sergeant in 2021 while assigned to the K9 Unit and was promoted to commander in the Community Policing Division in 2024. He currently serves as a watch commander and has received multiple commendations and awards during his career with the agency.

“Attending the Florida Sheriffs Association Commanders Academy was a great leadership opportunity, and it was an honor to be selected as a representative of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office,” Tarczewski said. “Growth is not achieved by a sole source. I appreciate my time spent with representatives from fellow Florida sheriffs’ offices and look forward to returning home to work alongside the excellent men and women of the FCSO.”

The FCSO said the academy was a two-week training course. Members of Commanders Academy Class 19 also raised $67,767.28 for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. The money will support the organization’s efforts to prevent delinquency and help develop resilient and productive young people.
