Nei’cco Murphy scored a touchdown on defense and another on offense, and Ehimen “He-man” Ajede rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns as Flagler Palm Coast improved to 3-0 on the season with a 49-14 victory at Jacksonville Terry Parker on Friday, Sept. 4.
The Bulldogs, who have already matched their season win total from a year ago, scored three defensive touchdowns in the game. Defensive lineman Jacob Harnisch returned a fumble 23 yards for a score on the second play of the game. Murphy and Mathias Parker each scored on interception returns with Parker running 92 yards for a touchdown and Murphy returning his pick-six 57 yards.
FPC played without starting quarterback Reid Pritt, who was in concussion protocol, coach Patrick Turner said. Murphy and receiver Logan Jacobelli shared snaps from center with the Bulldogs keeping the ball on the ground. Ajede rushed for 219 yards on 12 carries. He now has eight rushing touchowns in three games.
“He-man had a monster game,” Turner said. “And our defense was just relentless. It was a whole-team win.”
FPC led 15-14 at halftime before scoring five touchdowns in the second half.
“Our quarterback did not play, so we rotated two athletes — Nei’cco Murphy and Logan Jacobelli — at quarterback,” Turner said. “Our offensive line did a great job, but we had some unnecessary penalties, a couple of false starts. Obviously, anytime you got a new quarterback, the rhythm's off a little bit, but other than that, I thought it was a really clean game.”
The Bulldogs hope to have Pritt back for their first district game of the season — they host Jacksonville First Coast on Friday, Sept. 11.
“Hopefully, Reid is back, or it gives us another week to get one of our JV quarterbacks ready for this week,” Turner said. “So we'll be ready.”
First Coast fell to 0-3 on Sept. 4 with a 17-7 loss to Jacksonville Riverside, a team the Bulldogs defeated 23-0 the previous week.
Five of FPC’s seven remaining games are against district opponents. The Bulldogs are the only District 1-6A team that hasn’t lost a game this season. After hosting First Coast, FPC will travel to district opponents Tocoi Creek (0-2) on Sept. 24 and Atlantic Coast (0-3) on Oct. 23, and will host Sandalwood (2-1) on Oct. 9 and Creekside (2-1) on Oct. 16.
