A bicyclist was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on N. U.S. Highway 1 in Ormond Beach.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of N. U.S. Highway 1. The preliminary investigation shows a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound in the outside travel lane when the bicyclist, who was also traveling southbound, swerved from the shoulder into the travel lane and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle stopped, called 911 and remained at the scene until emergency personnel arrived.
The preliminary investigation indicates speed was not a contributing factor, and there were no indications of impairment. Additionally, there is no evidence that the bicycle was equipped with an operable rear light.
The bicyclist, Edward Joseph Ambro, 39, of Clermont, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The victim’s next of kin has been notified.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Officer Carlos Ortiz at [email protected].
