Gary B. Brumback, 91, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on August 7, 2026, in Palm Coast, FL, with his wife and daughters by his side.
Born on July 23, 1935, in New Castle, Indiana, Gary was the son of Donald Brumback and Doris (Utterberg) Brumback. He grew up in New Castle, where his father taught him the joy of golf at an early age.
On June 15, 1958, he married the love of his life, Doris A. Ast, in New Castle, IN. Together they shared 68 devoted years of marriage, raising a loving family and creating countless cherished memories.
Those who knew Gary will remember him as a uniquely funny, imaginative, and loving human being. He enjoyed humor, golf, fishing, bridge, research, writing, Hoosier basketball, travel, games, socializing, dance lessons with Doris, and most especially, family time; his creativity shined through all these activities and more.
In his professional life, Gary practiced in Washington, D.C. as an industrial-organizational psychologist, after earning a B.A. from Indiana University in 1958 and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1963. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi honor societies and a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. He authored numerous articles and books, including Tall Performance from Short Organizations through We/Me Power (2002).
In 1996, Gary and Doris relocated from Rockville, MD to Palm Coast, where they enjoyed hosting family and friends in their waterfront home. In retirement, Gary continued to write, shifting his attention to history and politics. He was, in his own words, a long-ago psychologist turned “armchair” activist for world peace, prosperity, and humor.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Brumback; his daughter Babette Brumback; his daughter Lyndia Brumback and her husband, Stephen Daniel; and his cherished grandchildren, Eric and Justin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Brumback, and mother, Doris Brumback.
The celebration of life and reception will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
