The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that left two Palm Coast men dead early Tuesday morning.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 2 a.m. Aug. 25 to a home on Bronson Lane after a woman called 911 and reported that an armed man had entered the home and was shooting. The woman and a child were able to escape to a nearby residence while the shooter remained inside.
FCSO said that as deputies approached the home, 34-year-old Jerome Curry exited the residence and shot himself. Deputies secured the firearm and entered the home, where they found 28-year-old Andrew Yoder suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene. Curry was taken to a hospital, where he later died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies had been called to the same home several hours earlier, at about 11:43 p.m., for a reported trespassing incident. Investigators said Curry had entered the home uninvited and left in a vehicle before deputies arrived. Deputies searched the surrounding area, nearby neighborhoods and Curry’s apartment but were unable to locate him.
Investigators said Curry later returned to the home, burglarized it and shot Yoder before taking his own life as deputies arrived.
Twelve days before the shooting, on Aug. 13, deputies had taken Curry into protective custody under the Baker Act after he made statements about self-harm following a relationship breakup in April. He was taken to a facility for a mental health evaluation. FCSO said deputies had also had numerous encounters with Curry since 2023, most involving civil or verbal disputes that did not result in criminal charges.
“Our prayers go out to the families affected by this shooting, which resulted in the senseless death of two people,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is a horrific and tragic incident for everyone involved.”
Curry had no criminal history, the Sheriff’s Office said.
