3:20 p.m. — 1500 block of North U.S. 1, Ormond Beach
Larceny. Police arrested a 28-year-old Jacksonville woman who tried to use a business card at a local gas station, which officers later discovered was part of a fraud scheme.
According to a police report, the woman pumped about $68 worth of gasoline into a car before coming inside the store. The woman didn't know the card's pin and the transaction was declined. She attempted to pay using two other cards, but they also declined.
When police spoke to the woman, she told them she met a guy who told her about a "job opportunity" where you get money for getting gas. She said she entered the gas station, saw the business card sitting there and took it, thinking that was what she needed.
The card belonged to a Jacksonville landscaping company, the report states. Police called the company and were informed the gas cards were supposed to be locked behind the counter and that the woman shouldn't have one.
The woman was taken to jail.
9:05 p.m. — 100 block of Williamson Boulevard, Ormond Beach
Battery on a law enforcement officer. A 44-year-old drunk Daytona Beach woman was arrested after she spit on a police officer.
Police report that officers received a call about an intoxicated woman standing in the road near the entrance of a local shopping plaza. When the reporting officer arrived, the woman was still in the road. He escorted her off the road and tried to get her address to give her a courtesy ride home. However, due to her level of intoxication, the officer was unsuccessful and placed her into custody under the Marchman Act.
While waiting for a female officer to conduct a search, the woman asked the officer if she could drink from a plastic cup she claimed contained water; police report it actually had alcohol.
The officer poured it out, at which point she "became increasingly irate" and spit into his face.
She was restrained and taken to jail.
