Mainland and Matanzas split in season-opening bowling match

Mainland's boys team rolled a 7-0 victory and accumulated a 2,588 pin total.

Mainland and Matanzas high schools split boys and girls competitions in a season-opening bowling match Aug. 17 at Palm Coast Lanes.

The Mainland boys blanked Matanzas 7-0, winning two out of three Baker games and both individual games. The Bucs won total pins, 2,588 to 1,954.

Mainland's Jack Patulski had the high game with a 244. The Bucs' Leiten Lundell bowled a 232, Judah McFarran bowled 204, 203 and Seabreeze transfer Xavier Subia bowled a 223.

Kaleb Castello led the Pirates with a 183, 192.

The Matanzas girls won 7-0. With only four bowlers, Mainland did not field a complete team. The Pirates' pin total was 1,323. Mady Hate led Matanzas with scores of 168 and 166.

"I often tell her that I hope to learn to release my ball as smoothly as she does someday," Pirates coach Jennifer Warren said.
