4:20 p.m. — 1800 block of Sunny Palm Drive, Ormond Beach
False ID given to law enforcement officer. A 53-year-old man was arrested at his home on a warrant for a July 26 incident in which he gave deputies a false name after a traffic stop.
The man had been riding an e-bike with another citizen when they both failed to stop at a stop sign at Palm Street and Fleming Avenue. While his companion provided deputies with his real identity information, the Ormond man did not.
He gave deputies with "multiple conflicting variations" according to his arrest report, and claimed to be 25 years old, despite looking his age and having gray hair. Deputies also found drugs in his person and he was arrested and taken to jail.
10:43 p.m. — 100 block of South Nova Road, Ormond Beach
Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. A 67-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested after he struck a transient man with a black metal bat at a local fast food restaurant.
Police report that the man had been in the drive-thru lane of the restaurant when he exited his vehicle and approached the victim, who was sitting with his bicycle near sthe restaurant's dumpsters. The victim told officers he was waiting for employees to be out of sight so he could look through the dumpster for food when the man started yelling at him from his car about his bicycle not having any lights.
The man then struck him several times with the bat and the victim hit him back in self-defense. One of his strikes caused the man to become unconscious, the report states.
When officers arrived, the man was lying on the pavement in the drive-thru and was in and out of consciousness. A witness corroborated the victim's story.
The man was transported to the hospital. Once he was alert, he told police that he felt frustrated due to being homeless himself and living out of his car. He told police that he "might have overreacted a bit" and would not elaborate further on the incident.
He was taken to jail.
