The artists at Ocean Books & Art are always ready to celebrate, and 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, they will be at it again when they present their paintings and photographs that evoke feelings of fall.

Because of the subtlety of Florida’s fall season, it is a real challenge, but the artists are up to the task. In addition to the artists who are veterans of the gallery’s art openings, owner Frank Gromling also welcomes five new artists to his oceanfront space.

Two artists who work in ancient art forms will add an entirely new dimension to the gallery. Marie Carney, of Neptune Beach, will introduce her colorful scratchboard marine life images and tempera painter Ken Waine, of Palm Coast, will showcase his seascapes and sailing vessels.

Adding to the event will be the whimsical acrylic paintings of Ocklawaha’s Lisa Whitener, who has been in every Flagler Fine Art Festival show since its inception in February. Ormond Beach’s Karen Ann Patton, who works in both oil and pastel, will showcase her soft pastels for the fall season.

The fifth new artist is the gallery’s first sculptor, retired forester Timothy Murphy, who works mostly with reclaimed red cedar. Murphy’s carved wildlife, including right whales which head to Flagler waters in the fall.

The gallery is located at 200 S. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach, across from the pier.

Art in the Village

There will also be a night of art at the European Village starting 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

Art in the Village will feature works by Andy Sovia, J.J. Graham, James Harper, Robin Hottinger, Marie Decosta, Ken Elliot, Harry Messersmith and Petra Iston.
