TWO TEAM TROPHIES FOR FPC

Flagler Palm Coast's girls and boys wrestling teams each won first-place trophies at tournaments last weekend.

The girls team won the Pineda Invitational at Deltona High on Dec. 8 as five wrestlers won individual titles: Joslyn Johnson (100 pounds), Christina Borgmann (125), Ana Vilar (130), Gabby Proctor (155) and Alexa Callidonio (190).

The boys won the Golden Triangle Invitational at Mount Dora by 65.5 points on Dec. 9, with Robert Twilley (126) and Toryion Stallings (132) winning titles. Six FPC other wrestlers made the finals.

PIRATES WIN FOUR GIRLS TITLES

Matanzas girls won four individual titles at the Campitelli Classic on Dec. 8 at Meritt Island: Jazlynn Golder (110 pounds), Mariah Mills (115), Autumn Jarvis (125) and Kendall Bibla (145). The Pirates, who had three other finalists, placed third out of 10 teams, while Mainland placed fourth. The Buccaneers' Cheyenne Wigley won the 235-pound title.

JORDAN MILLS WINS TOURNEY

Matanzas senior Jordan Mills won the 215-pound title at the Capital City Classic wrestling tournament on Dec. 9. Mills was a state runner-up at 170 pounds as a sophomore but missed the postseason last year with a shoulder injury.

Pirates junior T.J. McLean finished second at 120 pounds. McLean lost in the final to Class 3A, No. 1-ranked Frederick Mitchum of Miami Southridge. McLean and Mills are both ranked second in Class 2A.

BUCS WIN HOME OPENER

Mainland's boys basketball team made the state championship game last year. This season, the Bucs are 6-1 after winning their home opener 58-44 against Jacksonville Bishop Kenny on Dec. 8. Narayan Thomas scored 16 points, and Nathan Kirk and Kade Manley added 14 points apiece for the Bucs.

Mainland's only loss was a 58-57 setback to Dr. Phillips on Nov 29 in the Rotary Tip-Off in Winter Park.
